PicturePalm Springs Firefighters run in Palm Springs Marathon Runners' 10th Anniversary 9/11 5K in honor of those we lost 9/11/01.
On Wednesday, September 2nd at 5:05PM, I will be running stage 15 of Run Across America, a cross-country relay supporting the Firefighter 5 Foundation and presented by Run 2 Respond.  Its purpose is to support emergency responders through activities that promote well being through worthy causes.  This relay starts in Santa Monica, California on September 1st and will conclude, one month later, in Maine after crossing the continental United States and traveling over 3,000 miles.  A GPS baton tracks this journey and money raised at stage 329, located at the World Trade Center will be donated to the 9/11 memorial fund.

I invite all readers to join me in supporting our local first responders and challenge you to walk, run or bike any distance between now and 9/11 and make a donation to our local Palm Springs Fire Department.  On the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attack, our group, the Palm Springs Marathon Runners hosted a local 5K that raised $5,000 toward a local 9/11 memorial.  This money has been donated to the City of Palm Springs/ Palm Springs Firefighters Association which has secured a small section of beam from the World Trade Center that will be part of their memorial honoring the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and thousands of innocent people who died in the 9/11 attacks, including one of our local residents.

Our first responders risk their lives daily to protect and defend the citizens of our community.  Please join me and champion this local cause by participating in this challenge and demonstrating our appreciation for the bravery of our local first responders and memorializing those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms of our country.
